Update: Legal Challenges to FCA motor finance redress scheme

On 30 March 2026, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) published their rules and guidance in relation to the motor finance redress (compensation) scheme.  Following this, a number of legal challenges have been brought forward, including from Volkswagen Financial Services (VWFS). These challenges now need to be heard and considered by the Upper Tribunal. The Upper Tribunal is the Court which examines these issues.

It is not yet clear when the case will be heard and as a result we are continuing to prepare for the scheme. The customer communication requirements and the timing of those communications is still to be determined.

We, the other parties challenging the scheme, and the FCA, are all working to determine how to deal with the scheme requirements while the legal challenges are being considered. To view the latest on this topic from the FCA please visit their website.

Being mindful of scams

The FCA have previously warned that potential scammers may attempt to contact customers offering fake compensation, to try and collect their personal details, such as your name, address, date of birth and bank details.

If anything unexpected comes through - whether a message, call or email - please take care.
