Electric Cars. Made Simple

We want to make your journey into an electric vehicle easier.

Thinking about going electric?

Changing from petrol or diesel to an electric car is a big decision. To help with your decision we have pulled together a range of information and tools, so you can decide which electric car is right for you and your needs.

What are the benefits of electric cars?

The most common reasons given for avoiding electric cars are anxiety of their range, cost and charging capabilities. While these are always considerations, the technology has come a long way in recent years and some of the benefits may surpise you.

Environmentally conscious

The driving force behind electric cars is the impact they can have on the environment, representing a far greener way to get from A-to-B than a traditional combustion engine.

Ever growing range of models to choose from

As investment from vehicle manufacturers increases we are seeing more choice when it comes to electric cars, making it far more likely for you to find one that is right for you.

Lower total cost of ownership

The tax and fuel costs alone means on average an electric car is cheaper to run than a traditional combustion engine.

Improved range and infrastructure

Battery technology is at a point where it can easily cover the majority of journeys, and charging infrastructure is far more readily available.

Less frequent servicing

Electric cars have less moving parts compared to a combustion engine meaning less maintenance to keep each element running smoothly.

Additional savings

Home grants for wall box charging, exemption from London's Congestion Charge, no fees for low or zero emission zones and local benefits such as free parking and use of bus lanes - just to name a few!

What are the different types of electric vehicles (EVs)?

Battery Electric Vehicles
(BEVs)

A BEV is 100% powered by electricity and produces zero emissions while driving as there’s no combustion engine, no fuel tank and no exhaust pipe.

The majority of BEV owners charge their vehicles at home, whilst others use their workplace and public charging locations.

Plug-in Hybrid Electric  Vehicles (PHEVs)

A PHEV is a combination of both a petrol or diesel engine and an electric motor.

To enable the maximum electric range you can charge it by plugging it into a power source but similarly to a hybrid vehicle, the PHEV battery also charges during driving by on-board charging and regenerative braking.

Hybrid Electric Vehicles
(HEVs)

  • HEVs can sometimes be referred to as mild hybrids. The battery charges via regenerative braking, so there is no need to plug it in.
  • These vehicles tend to use the battery powered electric motor when travelling at slower speeds and are therefore emitting lower emissions than a traditional petrol or diesel powered vehicle.
